Security

The Transportation Security Administration has imposed a ban on liquids, aerosols and gels.

  1. Customers may carry through security checkpoints travel-size toiletries (3 ounces or less) that fit comfortably in ONE, QUART-SIZE, clear plastic, zip-top bag.
  2. After clearing security, customers may now bring beverages and other items purchased in the secure boarding area on-board aircraft.

Tucson International Airport recommends that travelers follow the guidelines issued by the airlines with regard to advance check-in. Most airlines recommend that passengers arrive at the airport 90 minutes prior to departure. Some airlines may stop checking bags up to 30 minutes prior to departure and begin the boarding process earlier in order to comply with these new federal regulations.   • No unattended vehicles are permitted in front of the terminal. Passengers may be dropped off and baggage unloaded on the upper level roadway.


  • Passengers not checking bags should check with the airline when making a reservation or prior to departure to obtain proper documentation.


  • Access beyond the security checkpoint is limited to passengers with a valid boarding pass and picture I.D. To expedite the screening process, passengers are advised to reduce the metal they wear through the checkpoints. Escorts with proper identification may accompany passengers that require special assistance.


  • No knives or cutting instruments of any length or composition are permitted past the security checkpoint. Walking canes and umbrellas, safety razors (disposable razors), syringes (with documented proof of medical need), and eyelash curlers are permitted in carryon. PLEASE NOTE: Any items confiscated at the security checkpoint will not be returned. There is a FedEx drop box located on each concourse for passengers who want to mail unauthorized items to their home.


  • Carryon luggage is limited to one bag and one personal item (purse or briefcase).


  • All luggage, checked and carryon, is subject to random inspection.


  • Food service on some airlines has been eliminated. TIA offers a "grab & go" menu available at the concourse snack bars.


  • Arriving passengers may be greeted on the public side of the security checkpoint, in baggage claim, or outside the terminal in the parking lot.
Shopping
Customers who are not ticketed passengers can shop at the concourse retail stores--as long as they're escorted through the security checkpoint by an authorized gift shop supervisor.
